Yep! Indeed.
But really good for people to be able to get together before it’s too late.
Last year in harsh lockdown this wouldn’t have been possible

Thanks everyone, he’s been discharged this morning to basically live out his life and quality life is the main objective at this point. He’s not in a good state but think he’ll hold on at least for a couple of days longer (hopefully many more) to have his whole family around him. Took some food over tonight for family supper.

Siblings are taking turns to spend the night as my mother in law is understandingly freaked out about him passing away in the night.

Rest of the family arriving over the course of the weekend. Sister in law from NYC has a 10h stopover in Doha.

Mrs, who is a teacher, has gone on the annual school trip from today.
They usual go to France for a week. But with things as they are, they will go to a venue in the UK this year.
So it's just myself and the 2 kids until Friday evening. They are teens now, and that makes it a lot easier. They are quite self sufficient

My daughter has already suggested we get take aways every night
She likes sushi, but myself and son don't
I have said we can get 1 take away. There is a nice restaurant up the road, so that will be another night
And I will have to make 2 dinners. 1 can be a braai. And spag bol is relatively easy.
Job done re meals.

Just need to make sure school uniforms go in the washing machine (my task) and school bags are packed for the next day

Went into a gardening store today coz my daughter needed something for school. Scored a 5lt Hydroton (Leica balls) for 20bux (R80) equivalent. Honest with my 500g ceramic rings were almost double that and the name is in Chinese lol.

Anyway safe to say I grabbed 2 and tomorrow going to throw them on my filters. The 704b has a whole tray that's empty basically that I just out an extra sponge just coz there was space in it. The overhead box filter has tons of space too. The 302 on the fry tank is pretty full but I will still try getting some in there and give everything a rinse while I'm in there since it's not been cleaned in a while.

Question on Leica though. How do I get it tank ready? Does it need hit water? I noticed they came kind of moist so I'm not exactly sure what to do and I'm actually glad it's moist coz then there's less dust from friction. Any help would be appreciated

I’d give them a quick rinse.
The other thing is that they tend to float until waterlogged, which can take a few days (mine did). Not sure if it will be an issue if using it in filter though.

Okay. I currently have it soaking in a bucket. Looks like Coco pops lol

Will leave it over the weekend and change the water every day until it clears up.

Excuse the poor resolution and surplus of Algae’s but these little guys have become one of my recent fascinations he’s maybe 20mm long at a stretch and will be taking up residence with my latest apistos from Chandz which are fantastic! In their own black water tank soonish

Been away for a few days and it felt like a whole years worth of threads on the forum. Nicely done guys.

On a positive note, one of my fish were terribly bloated when I left home and thought she was not going to make it. Turns out she's doing better and looking a little thinner than she was when I left. Tomorrow will try to get her to eat some food with metro and if she doesn't I'm going to have to use a syringe and get it into her. Hoping she gets better soon

So I just made an interesting discovery - at Namibian hardwood you can buy mopani wood for aquarium use for R28/kg, BUT if you buy bags of mopani wood for your fireplace it only costs R85 for an 18kg bag!
So if you're not too phased about picking out exact sizes and shapes for your tank, one could easily buy a bag or 3, pick out the ones you like and want for the tank, and then burn the rest!
