My giant mystery snail died yesterday. It was at least 3 years old and is the biggest one I've ever seen. IMG_20210715_092550.jpg IMG_20210715_092720.jpg IMG_20210715_092735.jpg

That's a shame, sorry to hear.

@Whoknows thank you. Please can some one tell me why we dont get quality and I mean quality fishy stuff in Gauteng / Pretoria ...in fact in South Africa. eg.
1. Quality plants. I have been looking for quality plants and cant seem to find any.
2. Large pieces of beautiful wood ...cant seem to find.
3. Why are sumps so noisy ...GRRRRRRRR
4. Oh and if you want a large smart tank for freshwater ...one has to get it custom built ...trust me I checked.
5. Ball valves suck ...well mine does anyway ....its so difficult to turn ...its so tight....one of these days I think I am going to mistakenly rip the whole ball valve off trying to turn it
6. Quality fish foods like Fluval bug bites and New Life Spectrum ...yep you gussed it ...aint available in S.A ....

Ok I need to breathe now ....

1) for plants wait until July for the ADA tissue cultures. Make sure to order in advance from a shop that stocks. Aqua empire, pet stop.
2) wood you can get from C&M Landscaping in Pretoria if you want
3)what's wrong with sump maybe I can help?
4) take mine:lol::lol:
5) yeah sounds about right :lol:
6) no comment on the fish food

Hope at least one of these will help you

1. Either wait for the Ada stuff or buy from farms/people you know or are on Tasa that’s where Iv gotten the best stuff. Nollie has never disappointed me plants wise but supply for the stuff I like is scarce. A new day is a fantastic supplier so is Zainul-Abideen

2. Can only help for CPT sources

3. Limited sump knowledge but overflow noises etc can usually be remedied with those overflow spiral things.

4. Smart tank meaning wifi enabled? If so sonoff are pretty easy to play with and jerry rigging is a great weekend project……

5… no comment

6. Buy food from Prof his stuff is amazing. I’m slowly moving away from my usual overkill 15/20 types of food in the food box to only using profs stuff with the odd shrimp product from other shrimp related companies but fish wise profs stuff is phenomenal.

Sump noise is so irritating. But keep experimenting with the sump. Mine is dead silent and tank is in the bedroom. I also use an irritating ball valve to tune it but I picked up a gate valve on special from mica - yet to install. Sometimes it takes about a day to settle down after getting air in the pipe. If I were to build it again I would aim to have the valve as low as possible and the pipes as vertical as possible. FYI I used the aquarium coop design: one valved pipe under full siphon, the second pipe higher with a tiny trickle to set the water level.
