Suitable Filter that is Very Quiet

Well in my 3 foot tank which is also just over a 100 litres i got an Aquaclear200 (200l/h) on one side and an Aquaclear150 (150/h) on the other side (both external filters) and once the water is high enough, you dont hear a sound, and the best part is that they are way cheaper than eheim, will cost you less than R700 for both and im running mine for over 11 years now with no problems at all, just regular cleaning twice a month

 

Fluval range.

I'm using a fluval FX5, its very quiet and hasn't given me any problems yet. How would you guys rate fluval range and has anyone picked up any problems with them?

 

The only problem that I have with fluval is the fact that they use about twice as much electricity as the eheim range, but they are good filters and a bit cheaper as well.

 

I noticed that it eats a bit at my electricity bill.

 

just got the penn plax 600 internal filter as a secondary and am not impressed with the quality. Cheap plastic housing had one of its tabs broken off. Motor/impeller has a loud humm sound. It seems this is the exact same product sold under a different brand name by dophin. Eveerything is exactly the same except the dophin is all black instead of blue housing and is cheaper! Should hav just got the eheim power ball at double the price. Any solutions to make the humm noise of the filter quieter?

 

my fluval 104 canister is very very quiet. you only hear slight water movement. if it gets noisy it's dirty or has air trapped inside.
I have a cheap asian brand internal filter in my nano and it sounds like a swarm of angry bees

 

i have a boyu internal canister filter and its really quiet (if you dont put in the air hose:vollkommenauf and it was quite cheap, paid R130 for a 400l/h one at pet adventures (kenilworth) about 2weeks back.

i got the penn plax cascade instead of the boyu thinking the higher price meant better quality...not so sure. The boyu seems more streamlined...takes less space in the tank. I have a boyu tank with built in hood filter and the quality and finishing of the tank is not good...it looks good and modern from far...u can see the difference if compare to juwel range. Juwel is double price tho...thats life mmmmmm

 

i agree with you disco the boyu products are very cheaply made i guess the price tells you that already but if the filter works or the product works then why not.
if i may ask what did you pay for your penn plax cascade?

 

well i know there are cheaper stores such as pet adv and sams but i was at perky superstore and since ive been to the others so many times, i just bought the penn plax cascade 600lph for R325 :-(

 

I use the Tetratec EX 600. Works really well and i have not heard a peep from it.

 

Same here. Got the TetraTec EX600 on the 1.2m and a Dolphin C-500 on the 91cm. Both of them super quiet and easy to set up as well. The dolphin I bought 2 years ago 2nd hand. Had the TetraTec 3 years no issues but accidently dropped it and cracked the casing. Replaced it with the same

 

I'ved used Aquaclear HOB filters, they work great but the best kind of filter, and also the quietest is a canister. Unfortunately you get what you pay for, and in the long run you will have wished you spend the extra few bob to get something decent. I am running a Teratec 700. It cost me just under R900 and it works like a bomb. Go with a reputable name brand so that you can get spares if you need.

 

Fluval's by far. 305's and 204's
I snapped the axle on one it ran for months until i bothered to get a spare quickly form the shops.

LunaTic I've also got Aquaclear 70's HOB on my 240lt tanks and they are excellent filters and very quiet. But like you said you get what you pay for.

 

have 2 tetra tex 1200 one on my 90x50x32 and one on my 1.2 and every time i walk past them i have to stop and look if they are still running so quit are they love them. and you get lots of small(2cm) bai balls.
