Flubendazole is the active ingredient, flubenol 15 is a trade name for the 15% active ingredient type of flubendazole.
thanks Dirk, then I will just carry on as usual and monitor the situation. There is definately a pecking order being established with the largest snakeskin the boss. The second largest snakeskin is also quite assertive. The incredible thing to watch is that the largest leopard is almost the same size as the largest snakeskin and that is the only fish that the dominant ss really hassles. Now and then he will push the other fish in the group aside, but its the largest leopard that he really gives a klap!!
The theory is that the biggest fish in a group turn out to be males, so your big snakeskin and your big leopard may be males, and they will then start looking for females to pair off with. Although you do not want to stimulate spawning now, I would put some spawning cones in that tank so that the fishes can get used to spawning cones or else they may start this very frustrating nonsense of laying eggs on the glass and on filter pipes. One warning though, is that the theory about males being the biggest and dominant is often not correct and I have seen big females dominating as well. One must just watch the whole development very carefully and see what happens. Kind regards, Dirk
@Dirk thank you for the advice of now introducing breeding cones to the tank. I was wondering when the right time would be to add them. As we speak, @tracyp is in the process of sending out our first prototype cones. After much discussion with her, a potter friend of hers has made a batch and these are being distributed to a few members here. We have a spare one in the mix which tracy has kindly offered to you. As soon as they arrive I will make a plan to get it to you and perhaps we can discuss any tweakings we can make to enhance the profile of the cones. Then we will make the next batch. So hopefully adding cones in the coming week.
Quick update I have moved the female into a tank of 5 adult peruvian scalares on 13/10 and have had NO issues with her being alone with the angels. Up till this date she had been spawning every week, but now she definately seems switched off as she hasnt laid again. Here is a photo of her with the angels.
She looks great....so does the Angels, but correct me if I am wrong? But as far as I know, once she has ovulated and laid her first batch of eggs, she will no longer grow, even if she has stop laying for now? This is what i know, but please correct me if i am wrong?
Hi Hennie The history of this fish is she is about 2 years old already. She spawned in a fellow discus keepers tank about 5 times, then we shipped her and her mate off to a breeder who managed to raise 3 consecutive spawns with her. Then the pair were returned to me and she spawned another 5 times, but each time there were fertility problems. The thought behind it was the male could be spermed out and needed a break. So we split the pair and tossed her in with the angels to give her a break and put the male in with my group of fish im growing out. As luck would have it, he paired off with the largest fish in that group, a snakeskin female. So he and the ss have been moved to their own 325l cube. And it seems like as i type there is ACTION. Lets wait and see what transpires. Andrew
Its now been 5 weeks that this female has been in with a group of angels and she is 'switched-off' completely. She has shown absolutely no signs of wanting to spawn, or stress or picked up any problems. But I must point out that this tank had a 3 week course of flubendazole prior to the discus being added to minimise any chance of her picking up a worm issue. Here she is completely chilled with the angels.
