The purists are going to say that plants and driftwood don't look natural in a Mbuna environment. I couldn't help myself though... It just looked like it was pleading with me to add some green:). Well, I'm much happier. Added lots of rubble for the fry to hang out as well.

Thanks guys... Still want to find some anubias. Looks like I've found some Pseudotropheus Saulosi with a small supplier in Durban. Found him on Gumtree... Hope it works out.

Protomelas Stevensi fry. I can only see 2 that survived the first spawning. To be honest, I didn't even know that it was happening. Lots more in the pipeline though..

    Can anyone id this?

This is no longer a Taiwan Reef biotope, but I intend removing the Pseudotropheus Johanni and the 2 yellow labs as soon as I find some Pseudotropheus Saulosi. Some pics of the fish now that they're well settled..

2 of my 3 male Protomelas Stevensi. Strangely, the dominant male is not the biggest.

Submissive male Protomelas Stevensi.... definitely prettier with his barring and yellow body. The dominant one has a more uniform blue body.

A pic or two of fry in the tank... There aren't many, but breeding isn't my intention, so I'm not gonna go to any length to increase numbers.

Was surprised to see a yellow lab fry peeking out of the rubble yesterday.

These Protomelas Steveni fry are now already 2cm long and swimming freely(with caution) amongst the adults.

The fish in this tank have proven to be very hardy and just generally easy going. They have grown to impressive size as well.

    Protomelas Steveni
    Malawi cichlids-3.jpg

And finally a question for @Jack Stone or anyone else.. Why are all of my Protomelas Steveni females turning male? Of my original 4, only one still looks like a female.

    Previously female..
