I heard from a guy at a LPS that a tank sould not be placed on a flat area.
But on a frame, that the bottom panel can also "bend".
He said one of the side panels will crack, because the bottom panel cant "move"
    Is this true?

    The tanks are 1000 x 400 x 500 +/- 200L with 10mm glass.

It will be on the mantle piece, made of concrete with wood finish. Strong enough.
It is summer in Bethlehem, will not use the fire place. still deciding what to do in winter time, gonna freeze my butt of.

If this was the case,I would have had in excess of 200 tanks go pop on me over all the years of fishkeeping(like half) - I have only twice had a tank go "bust" on me - once when a Tank very similair to yours had the silicon pull away from the back base and once when a 50cm large fish swam head first into the overflow chamber of my 8 foot, busting it...

More important is that the base should be absolutely flat - no humps or bobbles that put stress on the base glass... Think that if you go 10mm like you want to,their is almost no chance of the worst happening... even 8mm should be fine...G'luck

    Thanx Azurekoi.
I bought the tanks from fishcrazy, believe they are strong enough.

This is actually an emergency, our featherfin catfish is eating our guppies and neons. didn't know he will grow that fast.
So this setup will actually be for the catfish. and the other tank a malawi setup.
