So TASA was "down" for a bit. Part of the "growing pains" of a forum when your hosts start telling you your site is causing high server load etc (even though when I questioned them a bit further they admitted that the server load was already high and TASA was just "one of" the sites that were using resources etc). So yeah, busy looking at other hosting options now, not very happy with the current host at all. Initially I was extremely happy with them and recommeded them to everyone but now there have been 3 incidents (one: they disabled TASA randomly because of some old ticket related to a completely different site, two: they charged me for a renewal on a domain and then didn't renew it and it went into "redemption" where I had to pay $90 or it would be sold off to someone else and three: disabling TASA for high usage on their server even when it was very unlikely it was even TASA at 22:30 on a saturday night.).

Thanks for letting us know. I think that's pretty disgusting from them. I don't blame you for moving and hope you find a better host soon, without rip-off pricing and STOOPID excuses!

    Regards

Any chances of hosting locally? (Without being ripped off!)

Well that's one of the things I was considering. Problem with local hosting is that the bandwidth limits are generally quite low (like 1/10-1/20th of similarly priced international). I think most people these days get their line/connection speed when downloading, the only thing it would help with would be latency and the site would be a bit "snappier" and little things like smileys etc would load quicker. I don't think there's anyone left on "local only" bandwidth/accounts etc now. Most likely option is move to the same host that MASA is on who specialise in hosting vBulletin sites.

Have you looked into Afrihost at all? Not sure if I'm allowed to mention the name, but they are a non-fishy company so I'm guessing it would be okay. I'm very happy with them as an ISP but have never used their hosting. Others have and have been very happy with it. But otherwise I guess it would be a good idea to use the same host as MASA if it is already working.

Yip afrihost was looking like option number one. Either their top Linux pro hosting package or the one below that with overages expected. But its still shared hosting so will still have the same inherent problem just hopefully better service. For that price you can get a nice vps overseas but that's actually still shared especially as most of them use virtuozzo so server load is not completely seperate. Semi dedicated would work but that's $$$.
