It is official - no shrimp was ever imported with a permit and it will not happen in the near future either!!!

I just looked at a permit that was issued with the new blacklist attached and this was part of the addendum (on the last page) :

Addendum to the blacklist is as follow:
    "All spp. ot freshwater crustaceans
    (crabs, prawns, shrimps etc.)

All spp. of terrapins and turtles

    All spp. of amphibians, including
    axelotls, newts, salamanders
    and frogs"

Then it go on to plants.

Now the question is - will it be incorporated as a banned species or a species you need a permit for?

Just to clarify - it is not illegal to own them but trade is undoubtedly not allowed.

After consultation it will be added and possession will become illegal or you will have to apply for a permit and follow the following route:
"The application for a permit to carry out a restricted activity involving an alien and listed invasive species must be accompanied
by a risk assessment report in compliance of the Alien and Invasive Species Regulations in terms of the National
Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act (NEMBA 2004) in general and with sections 14 to18 of these regulations in
particular. The risk assessment report must be compiled by an environmental assessment practitioner (as per section 15) and
must specifically provide accurate location and extent of proposed activity.
 Should the risk assessment report and other permit application documentation need to be reviewed by a scientific expert; the
applicant will bear any cost associated with this review. "

I see a long road ahead before this is resolved and cleared up but for now I am glad I refused to buy and sell the illegally imported stock that is bred locally, for 2 reasons:
    1. Pet Stop SA was not involved in dodgy tradings and
    2. should there be a ban ot possess, then every client will have the right for their money back from the person or business they bought these banned species from (red-eared slider clients are already starting to claim their money back !!! )

@Moolis you are spinning two stories at the same time and contradicting yourself here:

To be honest I don't believe not one word you say as you cannot provide any written proof that this was said.
A trusted friend of mine and forum member established this to me just now that what you are saying isn't true and he has also been in contact with nature conservation...

So please keep speculations to yourself and stop getting everyone jacked up in this regard?

@hein24 prepare to be banned, you cant say anything a sponsor says is wrong or incorrect on this forum, they paid for their opinion to be the right one after all.

So a Sponsor may voice an untrustworthy speculation and not be told so?
You are correct, this is a forum and on a forum anyone may voice their opinion.

If they do ban me well then it's one of those things, but I will not sit back and let some one claim they have the facts and then not be able to prove it in writing especially if it's coming from legislation of a governing authority.

This is not a business deal gone sour so I am still within the TASA rules and regulations to disagree.

There is no law against trading! @Moolis I suggest you stop what ever you are trying to do....please do not spoil our little pleasures. Please back off, and leave this allone for now.
Do what you want in your retirement time, but dont spoil things for the rest of us... as we are not retired yet, please use your spare time in a better way, sure you have lots of time to kill.

Are you acusing other petshops here of illegle trade by saying these words? Cause i am sure they will not be happy with these words of yours?
If you refer to dodgy trade? Does that include everything else? Cause if you would like me to dig with the help of some contacts, I bet I will find something...:blink1:
Nobody will ask for money back, as there was no money exchanged, there for no trading! Unless they traded with you? Then I suppose this will make you dodgy like the other pet shops you are refering to.

So I ask you to relax and enjoy your retirement.

    Thank you:)

You know that old saying
"Thou hypocrite, first cast out the Jewels out of thine own tank; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the shrimp out of thy brother's tank.":blink1:

Being called a drol I will not post on shrimps again till they are legal (which I do not see will happen.)

To you all just think logical for 1 minute and not emotional.
When ever was there a single shrimp imported legally into SA?
    NEVER
So this lead to my second question, how can you legally keep them if they were never permitted into SA?

Totally different scenario with different set of circumstances and different people giving their input - do you know the route the government officials came to that?

If you want to discuss that you are welcome to call on me.

For sure, but if they come in illegally shouldn't they be illegal as well, same as the shrimp?

I'm not arguing, I'm just curious

    @symphysodon do you own PetStop?
Amazing how the "admin department" made mistakes on several occasions... and there is the fact that it was put onto a public forum with numerous witnesses...
