    Hi Guys

So last night I noticed that two of my Tiger barbs were swiming quite closely to each other and were actually spawning. The other barbs were swimming behind and munching up the eggs.

This has given me the idea that I should get them to spawn in a seperate tank and try to raise the fry.

I did some research and will attemp this in the next coming weeks, really exciting.

Use a triple layer of marbles as a substrate - cuts down majorly on them munching eggs...G'luck!!!

Right......So I have transfered one of the females over to a breeding tank 3 days ago and have been feeding her lots of bloodworm, etc. She was already well conditioned when I trasfered her. I will transfer the male this evening and hopefully they will spawn.

I have created a net at the bottom of the tank for the eggs to fall through, but not allowing the parents to chomp on them when they have finished spawning. This method seems a bit easier than a few layers of marbles.

From what I've researched, spawning will usually take place the next morning. I doubt I will be awake to see it.

So....Placed the male in with the female last night. She was courting him, but he didnt seem interested. Checked this morning and no eggs. I'll do a water change later today and hopefully that will trigger them. If not i will seperate them and try the again.

    Tiger Barb Eggs!!!!!

    Hi Guys

I came home last night and there were eggs at the bottom of the tank. The net saved them from being eaten by the parents. There is not as much as I hoped for, but its a start. Now to see wait and see if these eggs will hatch. Hope they dont grow fungus.

@azurekoi I started a Infusoria culture and will try hard boiled egg yolk once the fry are free swimming. I have brine shrimp eggs as well, will hatch them soon after. Will this be sufficient?

This morning it looked as if the eggs where covered in fungus. Im going to leave them for a day or two longer to see if any hatches. If not, I will dispose of the eggs and start this breeding process over again.

For future eggs, what can I use to prevent fungus from covering the eggs? And where can I get it?

    Thank you in advance

Methylene blue, for fungus if I remember correctly... Any chemist should have some.

    They've hatched!!!

On Friday afternoon I inspected the the breeding tank quite closely and discovered that some of the eggs have hatched. The fry are really tiny and are only a few. Atleast I got the Tiger barbs to spawn and a few of the eggs hatched. I will be better equipped for the next batched.

I dont know if I must put effort into the few that have hatched or should I get the pair to spawn again and hope for a much bigger batch? Seems silly to go through feeding insuforia and hatching brine shrimp for only a handful of fry.

I guess it all come with the experience.

Quick update. There are about 8 fry that have survived and are doing well. Feeding them Powdered fry food for egg layers. I know the food is not ideal and I don't feel its worth my while to hatch brine shrimp for such a few fry.

The next time I get them to spawn the number of fry should be much more and then I will hatch the brine shrimp.

7 Fry have survived and are growing well. I expect their growth to speed up a bit as I can now feed them crushed flake food, bloodworms & frozen brine shrimp.

Need to get a decent camera to get some pics, hopefully soon.

Update.......6 Survivers and they are all 1cm plus, growing very quickly now. Should be another month before I can move them to the tank with the adult Tiger barbs.

Wish I had a decent camera, will have to make a plan for some pics.
