Good idea... but I think it might break down back into the water. Arent they high in calcium or something like that?

turns out pumice stones are inert . sounds like a good idea getting sum into the filter . maybe buy a block and then drill small holes for water to pass through?

 

check out Hydroton which can be used submersed or in a trickle system and is very well priced for the surface area it offers...

 

I googled it and it does sound good . is it inert?
where would I be able to get some maybe builders wharehouse?
is it sold under a brand name ?

I think that the next guy that tries to sell me pumice stones at a red robot is going to be in luck . . . I would like to try breaking a few into smaller pieces and adding them to the filter ( and then keep a carefull watch on the tanks parameters just to sure about it)

 

rather don't break them . cut them into squares then drill 2mm holes into them . not to many holes though !

 

its completely inert, you could try nurseries and I dont know of any other name for it. I have a 50L bag and sell it at R15 or 1L...

i am using some crushed coral and some stones the size of tar stones as on the road in a dophin filter. Been doing this for 2 years now, works very well and i havent had any problems, I have also added amonia remover stones.
