I now have an allotment patch

So in the UK, if there is some community owned land, the local council can rent out small patches (at a nominal rate) for residents to grow something on. Most grow vegetables, but you are allowed to grow flowers them too.
I am doing a joint one with a friend of mine who lives nearby.

We have been given a huge patch, so this year we are only going to use about 2/3, and see how we get on. And then possibly utilise the other half if it all works this summer.

This is what we have done so far…

Two dark (watered) beds nearest is mielies (one from small plants form nursery, and other from seed)
Next bed on the left is carrots (from seeds)
Top bed is 1/2 onions, 1/2 beetroot

The other beds will be cucumbers, baby marrow and pumpkin. I have small plants in my greenhouse which I am growing on a bit and will plant out when they get bigger.

    Thanks

I was planning on going yesterday evening to give a water, but it was pouring with rain.
In the next day or so, I still need to go and see if anything is germinating.

Went to the allotment on Sat arvie to do some watering

No sign of life with the mielie seeds I had planted.
    Sporadic germination with the carrots
    Beetroot coming up nicely.
A few of the onion sets coming up

It's almost the end of the growing season, and the allotment wasn't a huge success.
The corn and some other bits was a disaster.
The marrow, onions and beetroot worked quite well though.

I think that the main problem is that between work and family commitments, just don't have the time needed. :(
So have decided that I won't be continuing with it next year

:( Might have got a better yield if they were covered.
    What fertilizer were you using?

We had a very warm summer. Don't think they needed more heat ??

Mature manure dug into the soil

I grow in worm castings and use worm tea. Even the beach sand that I have for soil in the new house seems able to start supporting some life.
Lets see this summer if I can turn the sand to soil.

I planted some beans and carrots over the winter. The beans did excellently. The carrots - not so much. My chickens got into them, now there are hardly any left.
