You can buy PFS from any pool supply company or most hardware stores

I use both matrix and purigen in my tanks, you can add both to one filter or seperate them, they each perform a different function

Flourish tabs would work well with swords and Jungle Val

    Hi

Yes, my tank has pool filter sand and all I did was, rinse, rinse, rinse, rinse, rinse, rinse, rinse, until the water stopped being cloudy, then I rinsed some more.. (pool filter sand is mostly inert, meaning it is useless to plants - I'm hoping to move to a better plant soil soon)

As for bigginer plants - I'm a total loss (my Java fern is dying) so no comment on that!

    Regards

There's a DIY mix some on the forum have been talking about (using peat and some chemicult? Can't remember read it a long time ago) my main focus is building the tank stand then I'll do a rescape with the new soil...

I want dark soil as well, not the light pfs. Personally I think that a dark soil looks better for planted tanks (maybe with pfs in the foreground or as a pathway will still decide)

I am also very interested in deep soil tanks that (if done right) can bring the required water changes waaay down - some say to zero if there are plenty of plants - don't think zero water changes are wise though, but I'll definitely be looking into that, as well.

Also since I am planning to keep ramirezi's in that tank long term I'm hoping to find a fine substrate - they like digging in it - that's why pfs works great for goldfish as well, them also liking to dig through sand...

There are substrates available that are designed for plants but they are suuuper expensive so I don't feel they're worth it - since 'plant-substrates' need to be replaced every few years, or you need to start using tabs any way.

    Hi

That sounds like it might be a bacterial infection, throw in a bag of Rooibos tea or two in your filter, for the night, that could get you started on a basic treatment that is natural and doesn't kill off the benificial bacteria in your tank, (replace it every day or two) then I would suggest you post some more information and pictures to help more experienced people diagnose more accurately.

Basic information needed is things like water temperature, diet, water parameters, water changing schedule etc.

There's a good chance the clear excrement is merely diet related (but I don't know for sure)

I'm sure more experienced people will soon Jump in and help. But for now Rooibos tea will help, and definitely not harm, so start there. (I've seen fish with similar symptoms live for months, so you might have some time to figure this out, of course there's no way of telling with so little information)

K since yesterday, I didn't notice any other fish or the given fish with any wierd behaviour or wierd poop. I didn't f eed today. It must have been diet related.

I also went and picked up PFS from builders warehouse...40 Kg R90.

Glad the fish are all ok, just keep an eye and see if it happens again

Remember to wash the PFS VERY well to get rid of all the dust and anything it might have come into contact with
