Thanks @tracyp: We got it with the goldfish that started all this madness. It was a gift, so it kinda lingered in the goldfish tank. I'll probably throw it out when I re-scape the goldie tank, just need to find goldfish safe plants

also have to agree with tracy
but it does melt, you can have roots / stem in water but the leaf must be out of it.

The people that sell this sort of plant need to be shot, this is a completely non-aquatic plant so selling it to persons for planting it in an aquarium is a con job.

Draceana is a genus of plants that even grow in South Africa in the east coast forest where they grow to about 5 m high, Dracaena hookeriana, but they are also distributed over the whole of the African continent, often in extremely dry habitats. What may interest you is that there is an extremely drought resistant Draceana on the Island of Socotra, this is off the horn of Africa, see Wikimedia Error

In the new assessment of plants for importation as aquatic plants, we have very purposely, not permitted them to be imported as aquatic plants, instead if someone wants to import them, they need a permit for normal ornamental plants which should stop this nonsense.

If I was you, I would plant it in a pot, and put it in a place in the shade in your house, water it well and soon it will be a nice house plant.

From now on when you see them in a LFS, go and tell them they are a ripoff!

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

    From the language

It almost sounds like the photo is past it being in the goldfish tank for a while, so OT but relevant - I would not leave the floss around the plant in the pot plant pot when adding it to a tank. Always remove the plant medium before planting .. even if you are now going to plant this in the pot and grow it outside ;-)

I kept it in the floss because the goldfish tank is a work in progress.
So there is either a pot or a compost heap in this plant's future
Thanks for the info guys :)

Floss can get into fish gills and stuff growing in floss sometimes contribute to other issues ... if you want to keep something as a WIP then I would say remove floss add gravel into the pot rather.

    Later Ferdie
